Job Description
Reporting to the HVAC Foreman, the Lead HVAC Technician performs HVAC-related mechanical work, including troubleshooting, installations, alterations, repairs, and general maintenance using applicable skills and knowledge. This position helps to maintain primary and secondary heating, ventilation, refrigeration, and air conditioning, and control systems and related equipment, as well as supports other trades within the department. Supervises contractor labor.
Required Qualifications
Must be licensed by the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR) as an HVAC technician. A valid driver's license and Universal E.P.A. certification for handling CFC refrigerants are required. Demonstrated experience with installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of residential, commercial, and industrial HVAC and mechanical systems/ Ability to work independently of supervision. Professional working knowledge and demonstrated experience in the use of tools and equipment used in the HVAC trade. Ability to respond to campus emergencies within 30 minutes.
Preferred Qualifications:
DPOR licensure in other mechanical fields. DPOR master's license in HVAC preferred. Experience with technology in the submission of requisitions and timecards. Certifications in welding, OSHA (for example, trench safety, scaffolding, operating aerial lifts, asbestos, and HAZWOPER), and others related to trade. Commercial experience with steam pressurized delivery systems, converters, plate and frame heat exchangers, closed-loop systems, water chemistry, pumps, valves, cooling towers, ductwork fabrication, and functional knowledge of plumbing systems. Knowledge and experience relating to building systems controls, including communications protocols, DC and AC electrical power. BAS and/or instrumentation experience preferred. Experience reading and interpreting written instructions, blueprints, and schematic drawings.
