Job Description

This position is located at the Southern Piedmont Agricultural Research and Extension Center, located in Blackstone, Virginia. The position will provide support as an agricultural technician by collecting research information and maintaining research plots, including planting, irrigating, cultivating, and harvesting. Duties include driving back and forth between research plots both on and off the AREC grounds to carry out these tasks.

Required Qualifications

Experience and/or education in agriculture or basic science. Experience working in adverse weather conditions. Must have valid driver's license and safe driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with tobacco, forage, livestock, row crop, and/or vegetable production. Knowledge of duties required in the production and research of crops in fields, greenhouses, and laboratories.

Additional Information

Ability to continuously work outside in adverse weather conditions. Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs. Ability to frequently stand, sit, bend, twist, walk, and squat. Must have a criminal background check | Must have valid driver's license | Must have an acceptable and safe driving record | Must provide own transportation on a regular basis to and from work.

The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
