Job Duties

The Department of Secondary Education and School Leadership within the School of Education at Norfolk State University invites applications for Adjunct Faculty within the Master of Arts in Teaching program, with an anticipated start date of August 15, 2025. We seek candidates that are licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia with a Collegiate Professional License, Postgraduate Professional License or eligibility for licensure with the Virginia Department of Education in a PreK-12 area.

  1. Teach online and on-campus graduate courses in Teacher Education.
  2. Engage in exemplary face-to-face instructional delivery.
  3. Demonstrate the ability to effectively use the university’s learning management system (Blackboard Ultra).
  4. Collegially engage with students, staff, and other faculty members.
  5. Meet university deadlines for submitting grades and other reports.

    Please note: Successful candidates must be available to teach both evening on-campus courses and online courses.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Possess doctoral degree in education or closely related field.
  2. Hold a current Virginia Professional License with a minimum of five years of experience as a classroom teacher in PK-12 setting.
  3. Demonstrate potential to effectively use a learning management system (Blackboard Ultra or similar).
  4. Demonstrate commitment to excellence in teaching.
  5. Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, personal integrity, and empathy toward all students.

Additional Considerations

  1. Has experience teaching in higher education.
  2. Possess knowledge of InTASC Standards and CAEP Standards.
