Hiring Range:

Additional Detail

Job Description:
Biology adjunct faculty typically teach Human Anatomy and Physiology (BIOL 310/BIOL 311), Biology for Health Sciences (BIOL 105), Microbiology (BIOL 334), and/or other courses based on departmental need and areas of expertise (listed in order of priority). These courses focus on teaching students who are majoring in Nursing, Health Sciences, EMS, or Respiratory Therapy at Radford University Carilion.

Course loads most commonly are one to two sections of 18-24 students per section of a single course, taught as three hours of lectures combined across all sections, and a separate 2- or 3-hour lab for each section. The Department of Biology encourages and supports adjunct faculty to engage in opportunities for professional development in teaching and learning through our Center for Teaching and Learning (CITL).

Adjunct instructors are hired for a three-year term, and teaching assignments are made each semester in consultation with the program director and the department chair. There is no guarantee that an assignment will be available in any given term.

Adjunct faculty hold appointments as defined by their letter of appointment, without eligibility for tenure. Where authorized by the Dean, adjunct appointments may be renewed. Adjunct appointments do not guarantee course assignments.
Minimum Qualifications:

All faculty must have at least a Master’s degree in the field/discipline in which they are teaching with 18 hours of course work related to the course(s) being taught. In some cases, subject to the approval by the Provost, a faculty member could be recommended for appointment based on substitution of significant experience for the degree.
Additional Considerations:

Each agency within the Commonwealth of Virginia is dedicated to recruiting, supporting, and maintaining a competent and diverse work force. Equal Opportunity Employer
