UVAFinance is seeking a detail-oriented and strategic Asset Manager to oversee the organization's capital asset management functions. This role will be responsible for ensuring effective asset tracking, financial analysis, compliance with accounting standards, and collaboration with key internal teams. The Asset Manager will supervise and support the asset management team while developing strategies for asset capitalization, inventory, and disposal. This is a unique opportunity to join a dynamic team, working closely with senior leadership to advance key initiatives that impact the University's financial operations.

This is a three-year restricted position, with the possibility of extension or permanent hire, contingent upon satisfactory performance, the availability of work and operating budget.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee and manage all organizational assets, ensuring compliance with capitalization procedures and accounting principles.
  • Supervise asset management personnel and provide guidance on best practices for tracking and reporting fixed assets.
  • Conduct financial analysis of capital assets to assess performance, identify trends, and inform strategic decision-making.
  • Prepare and review detailed reports on asset depreciation and overall asset lifecycle management.
  • Assist in the development and oversight of the Equipment Trust Fund (ETF) process.
  • Ensure adherence to Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) regulations and internal policies regarding capital asset management.
  • Collaborate with procurement, operations, and finance teams to enhance asset management strategies.
  • Coordinate with project teams to ensure Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) are accurately recorded and placed into service in a timely manner.
  • Oversee and coordinate physical inventory procedures to ensure asset records align with actual holdings.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain standard operating procedures for managing fixed assets.
  • Perform additional asset management-related duties as required.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience: At least seven years of experience in financial analysis, asset management, or a related field.
  • Required Skills & Competencies:
    • Strong analytical and financial modeling skills.
    • Knowledge of capital asset accounting principles and GASB regulations.
    • Experience with asset tracking systems and financial reporting tools.
    • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
    • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
    • Analytical Thinking - Ability to assess complex data and provide actionable insights.
    • Attention to Detail - Strong ability to manage data with precision and accuracy.
    • Confidentiality & Discretion - Experience handling sensitive information with integrity.
    • Communication & Interpersonal Skills - Strong verbal and written communication, with the ability to present financial concepts to various audiences.
    • Project Management - Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities efficiently.
    • Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement - Experience working cross-functionally within an organization.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in a government, public sector, or large corporate asset management environment.
  • Proficiency with enterprise resource planning (ERP) or fixed asset management software.

Anticipated Hiring Range: $95,000-$125,000. Determined compensation will be dependent on the candidate’s qualifications.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor's degree in relevant subject
Experience: At least seven years of experience in a financial discipline, likely with supervisory experience. 11 years of relevant/finance experience accepted in lieu of degree.
Licensure: May hold CPA or other advanced financial certification.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
