Job Duties
This attorney will provide advice and representation to agencies within the Health and Human Resources Secretariat, primarily the Department of Health. Duties will include responsibility for representing the Department of Health and its Offices of Vital Records, Family Health Services, and Emergency Medical Services. This attorney will also assist with Certificate of Public Need (COPN) and hospital licensing matters as needed. This attorney will provide advice on interpretation of state and federal law and represent the Department of Health in state and federal court. This attorney will also assist the Section’s lead attorneys as needed in representing the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services in licensing matters and federal and state litigation alleging violation of federal or state laws with respect to conditions of confinement. This attorney will provide back-up to the attorneys representing the Department of Health Professions and the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services as needed and as available.
Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate must be a member of the Virginia Bar, possess excellent analytical, research, and writing ability, and demonstrate superior oral and written communication and litigation skills.
Additional Considerations
At least two years of litigation experience and knowledge of Virginia’s administrative process is preferred.
