Assistant Director of Residence Life Operations

The University of Virginia’s College at Wise, located in the beautiful mountains of southwestern Virginia, is currently seeking applicants for an Assistant Director of Residence Life Operations.

The Assistant Director of Residence Life Operations is a live-in twelve-month staff position reporting directly to the Assistant Dean of Students and Director of Residence Life in the Division of Student Affairs.

The Assistant Director of Residence Life Operations works directly to support housing occupancy management including move in, move out, room changes, housing selection, facilities/maintenance work orders, and serves as a liaison with the Cashier’s Office and Information Technology. In addition to operations, this position serves in an on-call rotation and manages the day-to-day operations of a residential community including supervision of resident assistants. This position may also serve in the pool of student conduct officers.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

• In collaboration with the Assistant Dean of Students and Director of Residence Life, processes housing assignments for returning and new students including the housing portal and application.
• Assists in processing room changes, early arrivals, and break housing requests.
• Serves as a super user of housing software to support department functionality.
• Works closely with Residence Life team to coordinate and support residence hall openings and closings.
• Serves as a liaison with the Cashier’s Office and Information Technology department.
• Works closely with facilities management to manage residence life work orders.
• Manage day-to-day operations of a residential community including regular student contact, interfaces with student affairs staff, facilities, and other campus departments on a regular basis.
• Runs weekly staff meetings and bi-weekly one-on-one meetings with resident assistants for area.
• In collaboration with Residence Life team, supports and assists in facilitation of resident assistant selection and training.
• Serves as a hearing officer for low level violations of the Student Code of Conduct. Participates in weekly conduct meeting.
• Supports programming efforts of resident assistants and department of Residence Life.
• Serves on the professional staff on-call rotation team. Participates in regular on call staff meetings and trainings.
• Provides support and response to incidents and may assist in crisis situations.
• Serves on University committees and may represent Residence Life at various campus events and activities
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Minimum of bachelor’s degree, experience working with database management program like StarRez, and two years of residence life experience. Preferred master’s degree in student personnel, higher education administration, or related field.

This is a live-in position with housing and meal plan included in compensation package.
