The Department of Molecular Physiology and Biological Physics seeks a Laboratory Manager and scientist at the Research Assistant Professor Level to help lead a membrane trafficking/membrane biophysics program aimed at developing translational interventions in skeletal and neurodegenerative diseases under the direction of Jarred M. Whitlock, Ph.D. The candidate will join a collaborative group to hasten the development of lead candidates for the treatment of skeletal disease while simultaneously developing their own research program focused on membrane biology and biophysics as it relates to both multinucleated cell development and neurodegenerative disease.

The applicant should have long-standing experience in the field of membrane trafficking, biophysics, and membrane lipid organization and signaling. Experience with transient lipid redistributions as a means of cell-cell signaling is a plus. The application should be skilled in in vitro techniques, specifically: immortalized and primary cell culture, advanced microscopy (e.g. TIRF, Lifetime Imaging, probing the biophysical properties of membranes), biochemical assays focused on modeling cell membranes, molecular biology, and be able to apply these technique to the fields of skeletal physiology and neurodegeneration and be proficient in training others and developing these methodologies in the laboratory.

Appropriate candidates will contribute to developing research grant proposals, will secure independent funding, and must have a strong commitment to grant writing. Successful candidates must have effective oral and written communication skills as evidenced by a solid track record of scientific manuscripts and presentations specifically focused on membrane biophysics and physiology, with a preference for how lipid lateral organization and redistribution impacts cell-cell signaling and behavior.
