The Department of Education and Counseling is seeking a passionate and innovative teacher educator and scholar to join our team as a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Educational Leadership (F0222) beginning in August 2025. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the advancement of our educational leadership program, engage in meaningful research, and support the growth of future educational leaders in both PK-12 and higher education settings.

The successful candidate will have a strong foundation in educational leadership and a desire to engage in the preparation of educators who can lead with integrity and effectiveness in diverse and evolving educational environments. We are a collegial university and department committed to teaching and strong student-faculty interaction. A demonstrated commitment and ability to work with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and constituents in support of the university mission is preferred.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Teach graduate-level courses in educational leadership with an emphasis on real-world applications in the PK-12 setting.
  • Mentor and advise graduate students pursuing careers in educational leadership, preparing them for roles in school leadership, policy, and district-level administration.
  • Conduct and publish original research in educational leadership.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to enhance the curriculum and ensure alignment with current trends in educational leadership and best practices.
  • Contribute to departmental and university-wide service, including committee work, recruitment, and outreach.
  • Engage with local schools, districts, and community organizations to strengthen Longwood's impact and foster partnerships that benefit students and the broader educational community.
  • Serve as graduate program director for the Master of Science in Education, Concentration in Educational Leadership program (a two-year term, eligible for reappointment by the deans of the College of Education, Health, and Human Services and the College of Graduate and Professional Studies, based on a recommendation of the department chair).

This position is located in Farmville, Virginia, and is required to work in person on Longwood University's campus.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications :
  • A Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Educational Leadership, Educational Administration, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in educational leadership and a deep understanding of contemporary issues and challenges in education.
  • A proven track record of scholarly research and publications, with a commitment to continuing research activities.
  • Experience in PK-12 education leadership (e.g., school administration, district leadership, etc.), or higher education administration.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills, with a desire to work closely with students, faculty, and staff.
  • A Virginia Postgraduate Professional License with endorsement in Administration and Supervision PreK-12 (or qualifications sufficient to obtain this licensure within one year)

Preferred Qualifications :
  • Experience with online or hybrid course delivery.
  • Active involvement in professional organizations related to educational leadership.


Additional Information:

This position is a full-time, tenure-track instructional faculty position. Salary will be commensurate with credentials and experience. A successful criminal background investigation is required. AmeriCorps, Peace Corps, and other national service alumni are encouraged to apply.
