UVA Research Computing (RC) is seeking an Associate Director for the newly formed Digital Technology Core. The ideal candidate should have experience in innovative mobile technologies central to human subject research. The Associate Director will lead the Digital Technology Core (DTC) helping to establish an impactful research ecosystem enabling researchers to integrate emerging digital technologies more seamlessly in research domains such as health and education.
Designed as a resource hub for faculty engaged in novel research involving digital technology, the DTC will address a critical need expressed by UVA faculty for enhanced resources, expertise, and infrastructure. The DTC, housed within Research Computing, will work with researchers looking to integrate innovative mobile and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies (e.g., wearables, smartphones, etc.), next generation sensing, and cloud computing in their research. The DTC is supported by funds from the University’s Grand Challenges initiative and has the potential to transform critical areas of knowledge and/or operation at the University.
RC is within the Information Technology Services (ITS) at UVA. ITS is a phenomenal place to lead, grow, and deliver impact. It is an organization that values results and teamwork. The team strives to create a welcoming, supportive workplace in an agile group where everyone feels empowered to be their authentic selves and share ideas. We embrace a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
What You Will Do: This position will further our organization’s mission by working directly with university faculty and researchers and engaging with them to produce new digital technology solutions within their fields of research. In addition to working with a variety of researchers, this position will also lead workshops to educate researchers about digital technologies and create digital technology research communities in areas like health and education. Funding is also available for a limited amount of travel for professional development.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for providing high-quality services, enjoy supporting and educating academic researchers, have deep experience with design, development, and enhancement of mobile technologies, and can provide those skills to build and lead the new DTC. Our team seeks a self-starter, quick learner and a leader who enjoys technical problem solving and working on multiple projects simultaneously, has effective communication skills, and is a team player.
Location: To facilitate collaboration within the DTC, with the larger RC organization, and across the University, this position has been designated as either primarily on-site or on-site more than 50% of the time.
This position has committed funding through December 1, 2029, with the expectation of continued institutional support for the positions beyond that point.
