The University of Virginia is seeking a BAS Controls Assistant for Facilities Management's Automation Services Department. The BAS Controls Assistant provides technical support in the repair and maintenance of electrical and mechanical equipment related to all Building Automation systems. They assist the Instrumentation and Controls Techs on all retrofit and new construction work at the University per established standards while learning the trade. BAS Controls Assistants are provided guidance and on the job training from Instrumentation and Controls Techs in all new construction and retrofit installs. In order to help foster a safe work environment, Incumbents will comply with OSHA, federal, state, and local regulations while supporting safe vertical transportation of students, staff, patients and visitors throughout the University. Incumbents work under direct supervision but must demonstrate the ability to perform tasks with increasing independence.

Facilities Management (FM) supports the University of Virginia’s wide range of research, academic, and patient care programs. With over 1,200 employees dedicated to excellence, Facilities Management is responsible for the day-to-day operation, repair, and maintenance of UVA’s buildings, infrastructure, and grounds, in addition to managing capital construction and renovation for university-owned and leased properties.

The Construction Team within FM’s Automation Services Department installs new building automation system (BAS) components. in support of the University’s capital construction and renovation program. The Construction Team also supports the other teams within Automation Services (Building Optimization, Service, and Engineering) as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Two years' experience with HVAC, electrical, or related electronic experience


For this position, the selected candidate will need to complete the required background checks prior to their start date.

Compensation:

The Anticipated Hiring Range for this position is $18.00 - $22.00 ($37,440 - $45,760 per year). T his is a full-time position with UVA benefits . Employee benefits package highlights include:

Physical Demands :

This is primarily an active job involving the use of hand tools, testing equipment and computers. The job requires traveling to all Energy and Utilities areas of responsibility.
