Job Duties

To provide effective Career and Technical instruction in the business software applications area; to assist assigned students to complete the required competencies for that trade area; demonstrate effective classroom or lab management; ensure that the lab is operated in compliance with all aspect of safety management; and to maintain accurate and current students records for the assigned student.

Minimum Qualifications

Four years degree in Business/Information Technology (OR) High School Diploma with equivalent experience. In addition to having a Business Management/ Information Technology degree, must be eligible for a Collegiate license from the department of Education with an endorsement in business/information technology area.

'MS Office Specialist' Certification is required for those who don’t have a four year’s degree in Business Administration. Must also be eligible for a Teaching Certificate from the Department of Education.
If you do not currently hold a teachers/trade license from the Department of Education (DOE):
1. You must submit all documentation for your provisional license to the licensure designee for VADOC during the first 90 days of employment.
2. Obtaining a provisional license within the 1-year probationary period is employee’s responsibility and is required to continuing employment at the Department of Corrections (DOC).

Additional Considerations

Experience in correctional education classroom management will be preferred. Five years of experience in the related trade/field will be preferred. Knowledge of all phases of the trade area;
Licensure: In addition to having a Business Management/Information Technology (IT) degree; must have a Collegiate license from the department of Education with an endorsement in business/information technology area.
Those with a High School Diploma and equivalent experience, must have a Teaching certificate from the Department of Education (DOE).
Knowledge of all phases of the trade area; ability to supervise adult in-mates in a classroom/lab environment in a correctional facility. Knowledge and experience in correctional education classroom management. The ability to facilitate other instructors; knowledge of the Department of Corrections (DOC) institutional policies and procedures and policies governing correctional education.
