This position is with the Department of Corrections Headquarters in Richmond, Virginia, for the Reentry, Programs, and Education Unit, it will report directly to Chesterfield Women's CCAP.
Position promotes public safety and reduces recidivism by supporting probationers through a continuum of services, in collaboration with state and local partners.
Provides Peer Recovery Specialist (PRS) services to individuals on state responsible supervision in accordance with State Opioid Response (SOR) and Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) funding requirements.
This is a wage position limited to working no more than 1,500 hours per agency during the 12 month period of May 1 – April 30, regardless of the hire date. The wage employment period resets on May 1 of the following year. All wage employees are limited to working no more than 29 hours per week on average over the 12-month period. This wage position offers no state benefits.
This is a wage restricted position. Restricted positions are classified positions with at least 10% of its funding from non-continuous or non-recurring funding sources, such as grants, donations, contracts, capital outlay projects or higher education auxiliary enterprise revenues.
Minimum Qualifications
Casework counseling experience. Completed Virginia Department of Behavioral Health & Developmental Services 72-hour Peer Recovery Specialist training. Experience reflecting optimism of a probationer’s ability to enter recovery and sustain recovery. Experience with PRS documentation including utilization of recovery language. Demonstrated ability of ongoing personal recovery growth; willingness to share personal experiences as it relates to recovery; excellent communication skills. Ability to engage difficult to reach individuals; ability to identify a probationer’s stage of change; demonstration of ethical responsibility, boundaries, and confidentiality as a PRS. Ability to support all pathways in recovery.
Additional Considerations
VA Certified Peer Recovery Specialist, experience as a VADOC PRS Vendor, and certified facilitator for Evidence Based recovery groups.
