Job Duties

Serve Virginia’s veterans and their family members by ensuring they receive the benefits, support, quality care and recognition they have earned through service and sacrifice. Assist Cemetery Superintendent and Administration Supervisor with the daily administrative duties of the Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. Performs additional duties assigned by the Cemetery Superintendent and the Administration Supervisor in all matters concerning the veterans cemetery.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of office procedures that include telephone services, gravesite locater, filing, BOSS data entry, mail distribution, responding to routine inquires. Must be familiar with cemetery grounds procedures and equipment (such as knowing what a mower and backhoe does). Must be detailed and multi-task orientated. Must have approval from the Cemetery Superintendent and the Administration Supervisor for any answers to questions or decisions that could affect the daily operations of the cemetery and the burial operations.

As needed must be able to work outside if requested in all kinds of weather conditions such as rain, snow, ice and extreme heat and snow showing gravesites, coordinating funeral services, and when trained by the Administration Superintendent verifying gravesites.

Additional Considerations

Any combination of education and job experience that leads to the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed above. Knowledge of the funeral industry and operation of cemeteries is preferred. Knowledge of NCA (National Cemetery Association) rules and regulations regarding eligibility of veterans and dependents preferred.
