Job Duties

Performs patient care as a nurse practitioner with limited or no on-site access to a physician for guidance and oversight. Performs physical examinations, orders diagnostic tests, prescribes controlled substances, may directly perform or direct others to perform nursing assessments, may perform lab tests, take measurements, and develop and implement care plans including the administration of medication and case management. Actions performed at this level require licensure as a Certified Nurse Practitioner by state code.

Minimum Qualifications

• Demonstrated knowledge of nursing practice and health principles, physical examination techniques and findings both normal and pathological, disease states, diagnostic testing and limits of testing, and pharmacology
• Ability to perform and interpret physical assessments, obtain medical history, perform and/or interpret diagnostic testing, formulate differential diagnoses and plan of care and provide health education to clients
• Ability to develop patient management plans; excellent clinical judgement with ability to know the limits of practice and when to seek consultation
• Demonstrated ability to work without direct supervision; strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively with staff, patients, and the public; ability to participate in educational and professional programs
• Licensure as a Registered Nurse and Certified Nurse Practitioner in Virginia is required.

Additional Considerations

• Bilingual in English and Spanish

• Prior public health or community health work with significant clinical experience in sexual reproductive health (STI, family planning), adolescent medicine, and family medicine.

• Experience with community outreach and engagement work, including networking to establish clinical and community referral resource partners.

Successful candidate must be eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse and Certified Nurse Practitioner in Virginia and must be able to obtain licensing before start of employment.
