Job Duties
The Certified Nursing Assistant provides Direct Patient Care direct care to physically ill patients with diverse emotional problems and developmental disabilities ranging in age from adolescent to geriatric. This position provides personal hygiene duties to the patients including bathing, changing linen and making up beds, washing and combing hair, cleaning and trimming nails, providing oral care and maintaining clean, orderly patient rooms including bedside stands, tables and wardrobes. Routine treatments to patients are performed as assigned including, but not limited, skin care, non-sterile warm or cold compresses, enemas, and emptying Foley bags, completing intake and output and colostomy irrigation/care. This position will also assist with patient admission, transfers or discharges (including deaths) as well as collect and chart specimens and clean equipment that has been used by the patient. To help Optimize Functional Performance, the CNA encourages patients to achieve their optimum activity level as ordered by the physician including positioning, range of motion exercises, assisting patients with walking, transferring and sitting up in the chair. Performing correct application of splint and braces, according to scheduled time, and monitor for pressure areas. Restorative care activities are followed through skills enhancements and participating in bedside range of motion. Take vital signs and chart on the graphic sheet and in the patient’s medical record. Observe, record and report to supervisor changes in-patient’s signs, symptoms or condition. Document care given, chart TPR's input and output and complete reports according to HWDMC policies and procedures. Assist with setting meal trays and encourage patients to eat their prescribed diets, serve between meal nourishment and document patients to feed self, and set best dining atmosphere for patients. Transport patients within HDMC and to include special hospitalization or outpatient procedures. Provide 1:1 supervision to patients according to policy, within HDMC and to include patients on special hospitalization
Minimum Qualifications
Certified as a nursing assistant with the Virginia State Board of Nursing. Knowledge of personal care needs and activities of daily living Ability to carry out the responsibilities of the position Ability to read, write and communicate effectively with others Possess the physical ability to turn, bend and lift non-ambulatory adult patients without restrictions. Must be able to work required overtime and perform CPR.
Additional Considerations
Working experience as a nursing assistant within the field of medical-surgical, psychiatric, rehabilitation, geriatrics or intellectually disabled preferred.
