Additional DetailTo lead the Construction Stormwater Management and Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) programs, which includes overseeing permitting, plan review, and compliance for these programs and engaging with local governments and other stakeholders. Statement/Conflict of Interest Language: This position requires that the selected candidate complete a Statement of Personal Economic Interests as a condition of employment, per the Code of Virginia § 2.2-3118.2. Please note this position follows a hybrid work schedule to include both in-office and telework. Candidates must be able to work from the assigned work location in Virginia. This position will remain open until filled; however, the position may close at any time after 5-days once a suitable pool of candidates is identified.
The position is responsible for oversight of the Central Office Construction Stormwater Management and MS4 programs and supervising staff, including: (1) consistently and effectively implementing the programs in accordance with applicable laws and regulations (2) establishing program priorities in accordance with agency goals; (3) developing SWM and MS4 procedures and guidance; (4) representing DEQ and facilitating stakeholder and regulatory engagements; (5) serving as program expert (6) responding to and resolving emerging challenges; (7) maintaining effective collaborative communication and relationships internally and externally; (8) demonstrating and promoting team work to meet DEQ’s objectives.
The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is the primary environmental permitting agency in the Commonwealth of Virginia. It is responsible for administering laws and regulations related to air quality, water quality, water supply, renewable energy, and land protection. Through the dedication and work of over 800 employees across six regional offices and the Central Office in Richmond, DEQ issues permits, conducts monitoring and inspections, and enforces the law.
