CSS/Surgery Technician

The VirginiaMaryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Central Sterile Supply (CSS) Surgery Technician to assist faculty and house officers during surgical procedures for routine, emergency and afterhours cases. Instruct senior veterinary students by demonstrating and maintaining aseptic technique preoperatively, intraoperatively, and postoperatively. Maintains the daily flow of surgical operations to ensure availability of personnel and operating rooms for all procedures. Order and maintains supplies. Perform central sterile procedures including cleaning, packing and sterilizing surgical instruments and supplies. Assist in other areas as directed by supervisor. This position is essential and must report to work during inclement weather and authorized closings.

Successful candidate must have experience in veterinary care of large and small animals; working knowledge of basic companion and large animal anatomy and physiology; experience in hospital central sterile supply (CSS) and operating rooms; ability to handle and restrain all species of animals; knowledge of surgical suite, CSS instrumentation and sterile technique; excellent communication skills; rabies prophylaxis required (provided by employer).

International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management (IAHCSMM), Certified Registered Central Sterile Technician (CRCST), or eligible for completion within 12 months of hire.
