About the Position:
The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking to hire a Data Platforms Administrator in our Enterprise Technology Center – Data Services, at our Administrative Headquarters in North Chesterfield, Virginia. The job duties for this position include but are not limited to:

• Providing advanced‑level administration of the Agency’s enterprise Snowflake cloud data platform, ensuring its reliability, security, performance, and cost‑efficient operation.
• Independently monitor and manage platform resources, implementing secure access structures, and applying governance and compliance controls.
• Collaborating with senior technical staff on architectural decisions while exercising independent judgment in daily operational management.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge:

• Comprehensive knowledge of SQL, data modeling practices, and cloud‑based data engineering workflows.
• Considerable knowledge of administering cloud-based data platforms, preferably Snowflake, including compute structures, storage, RBAC, monitoring, and cost governance.
• Knowledge of data governance, secure data sharing, and data lifecycle management.

Skills:

• Skill in monitoring platform performance, troubleshooting issues, and optimizing compute usage.
• Skill in applying independent judgment to evaluation platform issues, implementing corrective actions, and recommend improvements.

Abilities:

• Ability to translate business and security requirements into platform configurations and user access structures defined by senior technical staff.
• Ability of interpret and apply agency policies, technical standards, and governance requirements to Snowflake configurations and access structures.
• Ability to create and maintain documentation, SOPs, and audit ready records.
• Strong communication skills and ability to support technical and non-technical users.
• Experience in regulated or security focused environments.
• SnowPro Core or advanced Snowflake certifications.
• Cloud platform certifications (Azure, AWS, GCP).
• Training and experience in IT, Computer Science, Data Management, or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience administering Snowflake or comparable platforms (Azure Synapse, BigQuery, Redshift).
• Experience with SQL, cloud technologies, data integration workflows, and operational monitoring.
• Experience with identity and access management, security principles, sensitive data handling, and adherence to enterprise data governance standards
• Graduation from high school or equivalent.
