Longwood University invites applications for the Degree Completion Advisor and Records Specialist (FA049) position in the Office of the Registrar. The successful candidate will ensure the accuracy of degree audit, final determinations of degree certification, and diplomas for graduate majors as assigned. The Degree Completion Advisor and Records Specialist will oversee the lifecycle of the graduate student's enrollment from admissions to graduation including, but not limited to: transfer and test credit processing, academic progress and degree conferral. This position serves our veteran population as a School Certifying Official for veterans educational benefits. This position will support all operational functions within the Office of the Registrar to support the mission of Longwood University and the strategic incentives to increase graduation and retention rates. The Degree Completion Advisor and Records Specialist will work independently to appropriately apply policies governing the operations of Longwood University.

This position is located in Farmville, Virginia, and is required to work in person on Longwood University's campus.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Serve as a Degree Completion Advisor to track progress toward degree completion, process transfer credits, monitor, track, advise, and communicate progress toward graduation, process degree applications and award degrees
  • Advocate on behalf of students with faculty to obtain appropriate substitutions/waivers to facilitate efficient and timely degree completion
  • Identify and gain faculty approval for transfer credit substitution/waiver opportunities to facilitate efficient and timely degree completion and assist the university in being transfer friendly
  • Regularly review process and implement adjustments to achieve more efficiencies
  • Utilize DegreeWorks software to ensure accuracy of student degree audits, and test systems against curriculum changes
  • Veterans Benefits School Certifying Official. Interpret, apply, and remain in compliance with all federal and state guidelines in assisting students in navigating application and benefits processes. Certify both initial and final enrollment certifications each semester as well as grading and graduation updating in VA-Once
  • Records and registration support. Assist in course schedule review to ensure all courses are coded properly prior to registration cycle. Assist in overall phone, in-person, chat, email communications and form processing. Manage all graduate drop for non-payment, withdrawal and leave of absences.

Additional Information:

This position is a full-time, administrative and professional, exempt position. A successful fingerprint-based criminal background investigation is required. AmeriCorps, Peace Corps, and other national service alumni are encouraged to apply.
