The University of Virginia School of Medicine’s Director of Faculty Development provides strategic leadership for faculty development programs and initiatives within the Office of Faculty Affairs and Faculty Development (OFAFD). The director designs, implements, and leads programs, workshops, and other activities aimed at supporting the growth and advancement of faculty across various career stages. The director reports to the Senior Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Faculty Development.

Primary Job Duties
  • Create and sustain programming for faculty professional development, including mentorship, professional and leadership development, and training for specific faculty groups.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of OFAFD programs and initiatives through surveys, interviews, focus groups, and data analysis to ensure continuous improvement and alignment with faculty needs.
  • Oversee institutional administration of AAMC Standpoint Faculty Engagement Survey, ensuring effective dissemination of results and facilitating action planning based on survey findings.
  • Serve as a thought partner to the Senior Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Faculty Development, providing insights and recommendations on faculty needs, priorities, policies, and strategic initiatives.
  • Ensure effective communication and marketing of OFAFD programs to faculty members, stakeholders, and the broader university community.
  • Cultivate relationships and partnerships across UVA to support faculty growth and success.
  • Stay abreast of advances in faculty affairs and faculty development within academic medicine, identifying and implementing evidence-based practices and programs to enhance faculty engagement.
  • Develop a scholarly agenda focused on faculty development and contribute to the dissemination of scholarship through publications, presentations, and participation in local, regional, and national forums.
  • Serve on local, regional, and national faculty affairs and development committees.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, or related discipline.
Experience: 8 or more years of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Masters or terminal degree.
  • Experience in higher education.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
