The selected candidate will provide quality educational programming through sound instruction to meet the individual needs of residents/students, as well as the standards defined under the Commonwealth’s statutes and program certification requirements. This position will provide instruction and engage students in a quality, competency-based program preparing students for entry-level employment and/or post-secondary education.

Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials, and equipment to successfully perform the work. Ability to supervise students and youth, facilitate appropriate classroom management, and maintain accurate records. Bachelor’s degree in Earth Science; or completed a major in Earth science, geology, or environmental science with a minimum of 32 semester hours in Earth sciences, including at least one course in each of the following areas: structural geology, petrology, paleontology, oceanography, meteorology, and astronomy/space science; or earned an endorsement in another science discipline and completed at least 18 semester hours in Earth sciences, including at least one course in each of the following areas: structural geology, petrology, paleontology, oceanography, meteorology, and astronomy/space science. Must possess or be eligible for a Virginia Teaching Certificate/License with an endorsement(s) in Earth Science.
Additional Considerations
Experience as a science teacher in a secondary setting. Experience teaching at-risk youth preferred.
