Position Title: EMS Clinical Coordinator

Department: Health and Life Sciences

Employment type: Full-time faculty, 9-month position

Position Purpose:
Piedmont Virginia Community College is accepting applications for a nine-month Emergency Medical Services Clinical Coordinator faculty position. Employment will begin August 1st or as soon as possible. This position is a nine-month faculty appointment with a maximum teaching load of 15 credits per semester, which may include day, evening, and weekend sections, on- and off-campus sections, and distance learning sections. The position is also responsible for clinical placement and coordination.

PVCC desires applicants with a commitment to the community college mission; teaching, learning, and student success; integration of learning outcomes assessment into course development and teaching; use of current and emerging technologies to enhance instruction; and other responsibilities that contribute to the progress of the college.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The EMS Clinical Coordinator is responsible for the planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of all clinical and field internship experiences for students enrolled in the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) programs at Piedmont Virginia Community College. This position ensures that clinical education is delivered in accordance with state and national accreditation standards and that students receive high-quality, hands-on learning experiences in diverse healthcare and prehospital environments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical Site Coordination:
  • Establish, maintain, and evaluate clinical and field internship sites in collaboration with hospitals, EMS agencies, and other healthcare partners.
  • Ensure all clinical sites meet program, state, and national accreditation requirements.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between PVCC, clinical sites, and field preceptors.

Student Placement and Tracking:
  • Assign students to appropriate clinical and field placements based on program requirements and student progression.
  • Monitor and document student attendance, performance, and competencies during clinical rotations using electronic tracking systems.
  • Provide guidance and support to students regarding clinical expectations, professionalism, and skill development.

Preceptor and Site Relations:
  • Recruit, orient, and support clinical preceptors and field instructors.
  • Conduct regular site visits and evaluations to ensure quality learning experiences and address any issues or concerns.

Compliance and Accreditation:
  • Maintain accurate records of student clinical hours, evaluations, and site agreements.
  • Ensure compliance with Virginia Office of EMS, CoAEMSP, and NREMT standards.
  • Assist with preparation for program reviews, site visits, and accreditation processes.

Instruction and Assessment:
  • Assist with classroom, lab, and simulation instruction as needed.
  • Participate in student remediation, skills assessments, and program evaluation.

Program Support:
  • Collaborate with the EMS Program Director on curriculum development, scheduling, and program improvement.
  • Serve on the EMS Advisory Committee.
  • Attend required accreditation workshop with EMS Program Director.
  • Participate in recruitment, orientation, and advising of EMS students.
  • Attend departmental meetings and represent the EMS program at college and community events.
Salary for 9-month faculty shall be in accordance with the salary ranges commensurate with Virginia Community College qualifications.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in emergency medical services (EMS)
  • National Registry Certification as a Paramedic
  • Experience teaching in a class setting
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
Additional Considerations:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Education Coordinator certification
  • NAEMT Instructor Certifications in Prehospital Trauma Life Support and Advanced Medical Life Support
  • AHA Instructor Certifications in Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support
  • Experience with online teaching
  • Experience teaching in higher education, especially within a community college
  • Experience advising and mentoring students
  • Experience working with a diverse student population
