Position Title: Emergency Medical Services Program Director
Department: Health and Life Sciences
Employment type: Full-time Faculty, 12-month, exempt

Work Schedule:
Flexibility to work 40 hours weekly between 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays, and occasional Saturdays and Sundays. This full-time (exempt) position that provides services in person for students at college and community locations, mixed with virtual/hybrid course offerings.

Position Purpose:
Piedmont Virginia Community College is seeking an innovative and collaborative individual to join the faculty as a twelve-month Faculty-Ranked Program Head of Emergency Medical Services (EMS). The successful candidate will administer the EMS program and teach a maximum of 15 credits per semester (fall/spring) and 10 credits in the summer, which may include day, evening, and weekend, off-campus, or distance education courses. The approximate salary range for a twelve-month faculty is $75,000-$90,000, depending on education and experience.

PVCC desires applicants with a commitment to the community college mission; teaching, learning, and student success; integration of learning outcomes assessment into course development and teaching; use of current and emerging technologies to enhance instruction; and other responsibilities that contribute to the progress of the college. Finalists will be invited to present a teaching demonstration.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor‘s degree in Emergency Medical Services (EMS) or related field.
  • National Registry Certification as a Paramedic
  • Virginia Office of EMS Education Coordinator Certification
  • Minimum of two years of education coordinator experience
  • Minimum of two years of occupational experience
  • Documented education or experience in instructional methodology.
  • Academic training and experience equivalent to that of a paramedic
  • Experience in the delivery of prehospital emergency care; and
  • Knowledge about the current versions of the National EMS Scope of Practice and National EMS Standards, and about evidence-informed clinical practice.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
Additional Considerations:

  • Master’s Degree in a related field
  • Instructor status in ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support), PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support), AMLS (Advanced Medical Life Support, and PHTLS (Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support)
  • Experience with online teaching
  • Experience teaching in higher education, especially within a community college
  • Experience advising and mentoring students
  • Experience working with a diverse student population
