DJJ is currently hiring an Employee Relations and Compliance Manager. This position is a subject matter expert responsible for leading and coaching a team of Employee Relations professionals on EEO/ER and complex workplace matters. It will provide guidance to executive leadership and the HR Director, managing employee relations, ensuring compliance, and promoting a positive, productive work environment. With extensive experience in performance management, EEO compliance, grievance procedures, corrective actions, dispute resolution, policy development, and Title II, you will play a key role in supporting the agency's mission to maintain an inclusive and supportive workplace culture. This position will also ensure full compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.
Minimum Qualifications
In-depth understanding of federal, state, and local labor laws, including FMLA, ADA, FLSA, EEO, OSHA, and anti-discrimination laws.
Extensive knowledge of grievance procedures, best practices in corrective/disciplinary action, and alternative dispute resolution techniques.
Knowledge of conducting investigations in response to employee complaints, ensuring due process, and maintaining fairness.
Understanding of various methods to address employee disputes, including mediation, negotiation, and arbitration.
Ability to analyze complex data and situations, assess risks, and develop compliance strategies.
Familiarity with compliance requirements such as workplace safety standards, harassment prevention, and opportunity initiatives.
Demonstrated experience making sound decisions quickly in high-pressure situations, considering legal implications and agency/organization values.
Skill in managing compliance initiatives, investigations, or employee relations projects, ensuring timely and effective completion.
Proven ability to mediate disputes and handle sensitive situations with tact and impartiality.
Ability to lead a team and foster a culture of fairness and respect across the agency.
Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with employees, management, and external legal entities.
Additional Considerations
Demonstrated understanding or work experience in state government.
Certification as SHRM-SCP, SHRM-CP, SPHR or PHR is highly preferred.
Proven experience supervising employees in a fast-paced environment.
Background in law or equivalent legal training strongly preferred.
Ability to negotiate settlements, agreements, or compromises between employees and management.
Extensive experience in HR management, particularly in employee relations and compliance functions.
