Job Duties

Are you knowledgeable about education and outreach strategies, including developing strategic partnerships? Do you have experience communicating with residents, community-based organizations, contractors, and others about energy improvement programs? Do you want to be part of making sure that Virginia takes full advantage of new federal resources for building energy upgrades? Then look no further! The Virginia Department of Energy, State Energy Office, is seeking an Energy Efficiency Outreach Coordinator to lead the development of the agency’s expanded work on energy education and outreach. The successful candidate will collaborate with partners to develop a statewide energy education and outreach plan, produce educational resources in multiple formats, establish relationships with key communication channel partners, and coordinate an energy awareness working group. The successful candidate will also be responsible for designing, launching, and managing a grant program for local governments to be partners in this effort. This position is federally funded with funds approved through April of 2027. Employment beyond that date is contingent upon the availability of additional state or federal funds.

Minimum Qualifications

The successful candidate should have the following knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience in order to qualify for this position:
• Knowledge and experience applying theories and tactics used in marketing, education, and outreach, including partnerships with trusted messengers and a wide range of communications approaches and formats
• Knowledge of current and emerging energy efficiency technologies and types of consumer-facing programs incentivizing adoption of those technologies
• Knowledge of energy efficiency-related federal, state and local policies
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, preferably including those involving government protocols
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing and to analyze and communicate information clearly and concisely
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with federal, state, and local government officials and representatives of private contractors, advocacy groups, and community-based organizations
• A valid driver’s license with a good driving record

This position has been designated as required to file a Statement of Economic Interest in accordance with Section 2.2-3114 of the Code of Virginia. In addition, individuals accepted for employment will have to pass a drug test and successfully complete reference checks as part of the Virginia Energy pre-employment process.
