Job Duties

The Department of General Services, Office of Fleet Management Services (OFMS) is seeking qualified applicants for the Senior Accountant position that will support the fiscal operations of the OFMS. This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified candidate to assist in carrying out diverse business and fiscal management activities in the Business Office. The incumbent will assist in compiling expenditures data, process, track and submit invoices, monitoring and reconciliations for budgets and funding programs as well as facilitate purchases through the Commonwealth’s online electronic procurement system (eVA).

Minimum Qualifications

Experience providing technical assistance in accounting and/or financial policies and procedures with strong attention to detail. Experience handling accounting functions including payables/receivables/General Ledger entries and preparing accounting reports. Experience interpreting and applying policies, procedures, and guidelines. Experience creating and managing electronic files. Experience with PeopleSoft Management System. Experience with purchasing, use and reconciliation of purchase card and automated procurement systems.
Commonwealth Virginia Contracting Associate (VCA) certification or must obtain within 6 months of hire date. Driver’s License required. Knowledge of accounting principles and processes
Knowledge and experience with automated financial and accounting systems. Working knowledge and experience performing accounting activities in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB). Good computer skills including proficiency in MS Office (Advanced Excel). Demonstrated ability to analyze business & accounting transactions and data and make sound and defensible conclusions and recommendations. Demonstrated ability to prepare accounting reports. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple competing priorities, to organize and schedule own work, and to manage day-to-day activities to meet deadlines. Working knowledge of office equipment including printers/copiers and scanners.
Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as with others.

Additional Considerations

Commonwealth of Virginia experience providing technical assistance in accounting and/or financial policies and procedures.
Commonwealth of Virginia experience handling accounting functions including payables,/receivables/general ledger entries, and preparing accounting reports.
Commonwealth of Virginia Cardinal System experience.
Commonwealth of Virginia procurement and eVA purchasing system.
