Job Duties

Western State Hospital is seeking a part time/wage Food Service Technician who will work from 7 am to 3:30 pm or 8 am to 4:30. This position will perform a combination of operational tasks related to the assembly and service of patient trays to include: proper assembly of patient trays, snacks and bag meals; service of items from a cold serving station or hot line, and cleaning of dishes, trays, equipment and kitchen facilities; All work to be performed in accordance with rules and regulations of the Virginia Department of Health, maintaining a high level of personal hygiene.

The Food Service Technician will also pre-portion food accurately using scales, appropriate serving utensils and the correct dish or insert; follow health regulations for proper hygiene/sanitation and food handling in all areas where food is cooked or served; accurately serves food and beverage items in proper amounts by weighing correctly; checks trays for accuracy of menu items, diet, consistency, portion size, tray presentation and cleanliness; and clean, sanitize and store all pots and pans allowing them to air dry according to the VDH and Department guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications

- Ability to perform all of the essential functions of this position requires: Ability to lift moderate to heavy objects (20 – 50+ lbs); prolonged standing and walking on various surfaces; must be able to work when needed in various environmental conditions
- Ability to be able to understand and follow written and oral instructions and able to read tray tickets and posted job assignments.

Additional Considerations

- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Prior experience in the basic knowledge of foodservice/food preparation and basic sanitation
- Bilingual
- Veteran or veteran spouse
