Job Duties
This position is responsible for managing and performing collection development for print and electronic information resources to support the academic programs of the university. The position supervises up to two full-time library specialists and reports to the Dean of Library Services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Manage the collection development operations of the Technical Services department of the library, including personnel, projects, and budgets. Perform collection development for print and electronic information resources such as books, journals, and media, to support NSU academic programs. Maintain library deposit accounts for acquiring print and electronic information resources from various book, journal, and database vendors. Supervise up to two full-time library specialists that are responsible for acquiring and processing books, journals, and media. Establish policies and procedures for effective collection development processes like identifying, acquiring, or weeding information resources. Collect and report monthly and annual statistics for collection development and related functions for administrative purposes. Develop business relationships with various vendors of print and electronic information resources suitable for academic libraries. Serve as the primary contact between the library and consortia to which it belongs for purposes of collection development and resource sharing. Liaise with designated NSU academic schools, colleges, and departments to coordinate or provide collection development. Participate in providing information and access services to students, faculty, staff, and others at the Information Services Desk. Represent the library on university shared governance committees and participate in campus programs and events. Participate in library professional groups and events and contribute to the advancement of the field of librarianship.
Minimum Qualifications
A master’s degree in library science from a program accredited by the American Library Association. At least 3-5 years of experience working in academic or public libraries. At least 1-3 years of experience performing acquisitions and/or collection development. A strong commitment to public service and customer service orientation. Ability to collaborate with others and work as a part of a team. Good information literacy and information technology skills. Good verbal and written communication skills.
Additional Considerations
At least 1-3 years of supervisory or management experience. Experience managing a budget for library resources. Experience using OCLC WorldCat Management Services
