Job Duties

A. Serves food according to facility standards.
• Follows infection control procedures (hand washing, hair net and gloves).
• Reads menu and selects proper portion control tool on cafeteria serving line.
• Working knowledge of patient diet restrictions.
• Pleasant social interactions with all customers.

B. Cleans and sanitizes food service areas.
• Follows infection control procedures (hand washing, hair net and gloves).
• Read and follow daily cleaning schedules.
• Follows departmental cleaning and recycling procedures, per policy.
• Maintains an organized and clean work area.
• Remove trash and clean trash cans.
• Mop dining room and other areas.

C. Busses and washes dishes.
• Busses and washes dishware according to sanitation standards and properly de-stains dishes at noon meal.
• Records wash and final rinse temperatures of dish machine, per policy.
• Operates and cleans dish machine, per policy.
• Clean dishware and trays and disperse to appropriate storage, per policy.

D. Performs simple food preparation duties.
• Follows infection control procedures (hand washing, hair net, gloves).
• Performs simple food preparation duties based on menu requirements as assigned by dietary supervisor.
• Assist cooks and supervisor as needed.
• Put up stock and recycle boxes, per policy.

E. Diet Kitchen extra duties.
• Follows infection control procedures (hand washing, hair net, gloves).
• Reads menu and selects proper portion control tool.
• Working knowledge of patient diet restrictions.
• Works cooperatively on tray line in assigned position.
• Tray delivery to units according to time schedule.
• Assist diet kitchen personnel as assigned by dietary supervisor.

F. Continuing Education.
• Attends all required in-services.

Minimum Qualifications

· Be able to assimilate and retain knowledge.
· Be able to read with comprehension.
· Be able to work without constant supervision.
· Have the ability to analyze simple diet decisions and come to a correct conclusion.
· Possess good employee/patient/staff relationships.
· Refer to Catawba Hospital Competency Assessment.

Additional Considerations

Previous food service experience or experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.
