The Gross Anatomy Lab at the University of Virginia School of Medicine seeks a Diener to care for and maintain the anatomical donors (cadavers) used in medical education. In our state-of-the-art Anatomy lab, we provide an immersive learning environment where medical students gain hands-on experience through donor dissection. In addition to traditional anatomical studies, we offer cutting-edge, clinically applied lab sessions that allow students to practice medical procedures on anatomical donors, bridging the gap between foundational knowledge and real-world application. Under the guidance and direction of the Gross Anatomy Lab Manager and Director of Anatomy, the Diener is responsible for handling, moving, and cleaning cadavers as well as maintaining records related to the anatomical donors.

  • Assist with consulting the Anatomy website to be sure the appropriate teaching materials are present during Medical Education instruction.
  • Assist with set up of GME/UME/Vendor labs in SSTC.
  • Ensure lab users follow the UVA SOM Gross Anatomy Laboratory Policies and Rules.
  • Frequent contact with regulatory boards and/or governmental entities (e.g., Virginia State Anatomical Program) regarding standards, quality assurance, and lab procedures.
  • Frequent contact with internal departments (e.g., MedEd Tech, iLAB, Environmental Health and Safety, Facilities Management, etc.) and external stakeholders (e.g., vendors, lab participants, next of kin) concerning lab set up, educational, and equipment needs, when applicable.
  • Frequent contact with students, residents, fellows, faculty, and staff to provide information, consultation, or direction concerning laboratory operations.
