Job Description:
Patrick & Henry Community College is a comprehensive two-year institution committed to student success, lifelong learning, initiating an atmosphere of care via our caring campus model, and enrichment of the quality of life in the region it serves. Serving Martinsville, Henry County, Patrick County, and the southern portion of Franklin County, P&HCC is a comprehensive open-door institution, accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award the associate degree. Patrick & Henry offers 29 associate degree programs, 12 certificate programs and 38 career studies certificate programs. The college also delivers a variety of nontraditional programs such as customized workforce development training, industry-recognized certifications, developmental and transitional programs, and courses for personal enrichment.

Purpose of Position:
Patrick & Henry Community College (P&HCC), a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), seeks a dynamic and dedicated Head Wrestling Coach to lead and grow its men’s and women’s wrestling programs. The ideal candidate will be committed to fostering academic success, athletic excellence, personal development, and community engagement in alignment with the College’s mission and the values of the P&HCC Athletics Department.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan, organize, and direct all aspects of the intercollegiate wrestling program (practice, competition, travel, recruitment, etc.)
  • Recruit and retain student-athletes who demonstrate potential for academic and athletic success
  • Provide mentorship, guidance, and life skills development for student-athletes
  • Monitor academic progress and ensure eligibility in accordance with NJCAA, Region 10, and P&HCC policies
  • Foster a culture of sportsmanship, integrity, and respect on and off the mat
  • Manage program budget and ensure fiscal responsibility
  • Coordinate team travel, scheduling, equipment, and facility use
  • Promote the wrestling program through community involvement, camps, and outreach
  • Collaborate with athletic trainers, academic advisors, and College administration to support student success
  • Ensure compliance with all institutional, regional, and national athletic regulations
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Prior wrestling coaching experience (high school, club, or collegiate level)
  • Knowledge of NJCAA rules and eligibility guidelines (or willingness to learn)
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to recruit and relate effectively to diverse student populations
Additional Considerations:

  • Experience coaching at the collegiate level
  • Familiarity with Region 10 and NJCAA recruiting standards
  • Demonstrated success in building or growing a wrestling program
