Ideal for a currently enrolled or recently graduated student of library science with an interest in health sciences librarianship. This position offers up to 25 hours per week and the opportunity to work with practicing health sciences librarians, in person or virtually. Through experiential learning, the individual in this position will be able to build and develop their career portfolio.

Reporting to the Internship Coordinator, this position is responsible for the completion of outreach and research support projects for the Research and Education Department at VCU Libraries Health Sciences Library. The internship experience will provide an opportunity for a librarian at the beginning of their career to gain practical professional experience in an academic health sciences library. The internship experience supports the development of an individual using the Medical Library Association’s Competencies for Lifelong Learning and Professional Success . This position will work closely with health sciences librarians and directly with library users, including VCU faculty, students, and staff. There is also the potential to work with members of the Greater Richmond community. This position will gain the knowledge and skills to provide research and instruction support through opportunities to interact with users, conduct library orientations, present at library workshops; as well as the possibility to participate in evidence synthesis projects. Work accomplished by this position will include the creation and maintenance of learning objects such as Research Guides or instructional videos, development of workshop lesson plans, and data analysis and assessment support. The position will work with the Internship Coordinator to establish achievable personal and project goals for the duration of the internship period.
