Job Duties
Hiram W. Davis Medical Center, located in Petersburg, Virginia, is a 94-bed medical facility providing acute medical diagnoses, skilled care, intermediate care, and long term care to individuals receiving services in Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services facilities and within the community that have intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. Admissions to HWDMC are generally either permanent placement or special hospitalization. Patients typically come to HWDMC as a special hospitalization for step-down to stabilize, post-surgery rehabilitation, or long-term care.
The Risk Manager will plan, manage, and implement facility-wide programs in the area of Risk Management. The position manages the interdisciplinary facility wide risk management program designed to address risk identification, reporting, analysis, investigation and reduction. The individual will conduct investigations for incidents of unknown origin and submits written summary reports as required by DBHDS, CMS, and TJC. The Risk Manager will assist with ensuring that all areas of responsibility progress toward and maintain compliance with CMS conditions of participation and TJC standards.
Additional duties include but not limited to:
Facilitating departmental level meetings on quality and risk management issues and recommendations
Partners with department heads to create action plans, and internal plans of correction
Provides education and training to staff of various levels on quality assurance and risk management processes (including incident reporting and remediation efforts)
Conducting investigations regarding patient care and violations of Human Rights
Minimum Qualifications
Ability to conduct thorough investigations, analyze problems, and recommend solutions; establish effective working relationships with human service delivery system managers; design and deliver training programs; and maintain accurate records.
Knowledge of clinical quality, patient safety, patient experience and/or patient satisfaction performance measures and indicators.
Experience in human rights advocacy or a related occupation, which includes conflict resolution, crisis intervention and case investigation.
Advanced knowledge of the rules and regulations governing the administration of Risk Management programs and state and federal requirements regarding TJC and CMS standards.
Ability to implement clinical and administrative goals/standards; be able to assist with reviewing, evaluating, identifying and resolving system problems related to clinical and administrative occurrences; interpret TJC and CMS guidelines.
Ability to use Microsoft Office suite and other applications to compile statistical reports and presentations.
Additional Considerations
Certification as a Risk Management Professional or similar credentials are preferred.
Experience or coursework in healthcare administration, business, or a related field and/or experience in Quality and Risk Management, including models of RCAs, FMEAs, Performance Improvement, malpractice and liability prevention and intervention, preferred.
Experience in a healthcare setting and/or risk/patient safety and investigations, preferred.
Experience with Just Culture and Culture of Safety principles preferred.
