VDOT’s Bristol District is excited to announce a vacancy for the Maintenance Supervisor position in the Abingdon Residency Maintenance Department at the Marion Area Headquarters and Chilhowie Area Headquarters. In this role, you will oversee and execute a variety of roadway maintenance activities, ranging from simple to complex. You will lead a crew, providing technical guidance and support as they perform maintenance tasks and operate equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

• Skilled in the use of computers and software applications.

• Valid driver's license.

• Skilled in operating and maintaining light to heavy duty trucks and equipment.

• Ability to perform manual labor.

• Ability to direct, evaluate and train others.

• Safety shoes required.

• Considerable knowledge of roadway maintenance and construction practices and procedures.

• Ability to obtain valid CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months of employment and maintain thereafter. Must comply with DOT and VDOT policies and standards when operating CDL equipment.

• Ability to obtain and maintain required certifications thereafter.

• Knowledge of inventory practices and procedures.

Additional Considerations

• A combination of training, experience, or education in Management, Maintenance, Construction, or related field desired.

• DCR Erosion and Sediment Control certification.

• Experience supervising others and evaluating performance.

• Experience planning schedules and assigning manpower.

• Ability to gather data, conduct research and create reports.

• Experience overseeing emergency operations activities including snow removal, storm damage, and accident clean-up.

• Inventory management experience.

• Experience in roadway maintenance and, or construction activities.
