Job Duties

The Virginia Retirement System (VRS) is seeking a customer service oriented professional to provide on-site support in the VRS Retirement Counseling Center engaging with VRS members and retirees through various communication formats to increase an understanding of VRS retirement benefits and services. This position will work independently providing retirement counseling virtually, in person or by phone.

Essential duties include but are not limited to:

• Provides advanced-level retirement counseling to VRS members regarding retirement benefits to include complex retirement estimate calculations and information on VRS services.
• Educates members on and provides assistance in navigating Medicare eligibility and supplemental insurance.
• Participates in special outreach events as required, including, but not limited to, benefit fairs.
• Provides administrative support to scheduling and managing appointment requests.
• Supports complex retirement estimate processing.
• Performs various other duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Hours of Work: 29 Hours a Week
Work Hours: Flexible during the hours of 8:30 am and 5:00 pm
Workdays: Monday through Friday

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.

Two (2) years experience counseling on benefits or working in Human Resources managing benefits or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

• Excellent ability to communicate complex information orally and in writing.
• Ability to show professionalism, empathy and confidence.
• Proficiency in math and complex equations
• Ability to work independently and as a team solving problems and managing priorities.

Special Instructions

This position works on-site Monday through Friday in the VRS Retirement Counseling Center.
