This is a para-professional position under the supervision of a Family Services Specialist Supervisor that is responsible for providing a variety of services while working in one or more program areas performing responsible administrative and technical work in support of agency clients involved with Child Protective Services and Prevention Services. Major responsibility is to answer the Child Protective Services intake lines and document calls and referrals. General responsibilities include the following: interview clients both in-person and over the phone, fill out intake forms, input data, file, prepare and maintain records along with a variety of financial and statistical forms and reports. Also responsible for answering phone and taking messages, case documentation, make copies, fax documents, letters and forms and supporting Family Services Specialists in performing their job duties. Serve in emergency shelters as mandated by the state.

Working knowledge of: agency’s computer systems and software, principles and processes for providing customer and personal services; human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; and mathematics. Some knowledge of regulations, policies, and procedures of the assigned program area as related to assisting the clients; may require some knowledge of counseling terminology and practices.

Skill needed with operating a motor vehicle and personal computer with associated software.

Demonstrated ability to: plan, organize, and manage own work activities including service delivery, preparing technical reports and correspondence, and record-keeping and related activities; understand policies, and regulations; effectively communicate ideas both orally and in writing; counsel and refer clients to other resources as needed; respond to the client’s emotions in order to accomplish service objectives; establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, associates, other social service agencies and the general public; work as a part of a team; and stay abreast of current trneds and developments in the social work field.

High school diploma supplemented with post-secondary coursework in subjects such as social work, human services, gerontology, or one of the social behavioral sciences, business or related field and relevant work experience in public administrative support work OR any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Must pass the agency’s background checks.
