Instructional Technology Specialists address client needs with the development of appropriate strategies for implementing learning technology across a broad range of academic programs and initiatives. They provide training, documentation, testing, and technical support. Instructional Technology Specialists receive priorities from Senior Instructional Technology Specialists.

A&S Learning Design and Technology (LDT) at the University of Virginia (UVA) invites applications for the role of Instructional Technolog y Specialist . LDT is a unit of the College & Graduate School of Arts & Sciences (A&S). We are a collaborative team supporting faculty through instructional design, specialized learning spaces, instructional technology integration, and incubation of innovative projects.

Core responsibilities :
  • Facilitate accessible applications of teaching & learning technologies by
    • providing direct support to faculty in employing UVA-licensed tools (e.g., Canvas) to facilitate student learning
    • contributing to LDT efforts to ensure the accessibility of digital spaces, platforms, and content
    • evaluating new instructional technologies to address teaching and learning needs
  • Facilitate access to LDT’s specialized spaces, equipment, and technology by
    • managing lending, updating, tracking, and replacement of equipment and software
    • maintaining and troubleshooting common equipment and software
    • collaborating with vendors and University colleagues
    • providing back-fill support for LDT’s Language Lab, Media Studio, and/or other spaces as assigned
  • Provide administrative and logistical support for LDT programs & spaces through
    • room scheduling and access management processes
    • process improvements and project coordination
    • data management and analysis related to instructional equipment and space use
  • Other duties as assigned


This position will collaborate regularly with colleagues in LDT, Arts & Sciences , and learning technology partners across UVA. This role reports to the LDT Assistant Director .

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree


  • At least two years of instructional computing experience. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Relevant fields i nclude: education, instructional design, instructional technology, digital accessibility support, IT, faculty development


The successful candidate will demonstrate many (but likely not all) of the following preferred qualifications:

  • Successful experience using and supporting Canvas and common learning technologies


  • Successful administrative experience (e.g., room scheduling, data management)


  • Excellent communication, organization , and time management skills


  • Teaching and/or instructional support experience


  • Familiarity with accessibility practices and considerations in teaching and learning


  • Interest in emerging instructional technologies and their application


  • Familiarity in using Microsoft tools to complete administrative tasks effectively


This position is located in Charlottesville, VA. A hybrid work schedule may be available, contingent on needs of the department and incumbent's performance.

The anticipated start date is Summer 2025 . Anticipated Hiring Range: $65,000 - $71,000 annually, commensurate with education and experience. This is an Exempt level, benefited position. For information on the benefits at UVA, visit hr.virginia.edu/benefits.

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs. This job requires frequent movement between sites, offices, and classrooms; transporting supplies to and from job sites; and moving equipment up to 40 pounds.
