Southside Virginia Community College seeks a motivated 9-month History and Political Science faculty member to teach 100 and 200-level undergraduate History and Political Science courses. This position will also support institutional advancement with program review and assessment to support student learning. The successful candidate must be committed to our mission to provide quality education to a diverse constituency.

Classes taught may be a combination of day, night and/or weekends and may be located on or off campus. For initial consideration, please submit a completed state application by Wednesday, July 23, 2025.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

• Seated Instruction, which may be a combination of day, night and/or weekends.
• Classes may be located on or off campus, possibly in local high schools, in a correctional center or other locations served by the college
• Online and Hybrid Instruction
• Minimum teaching load for this position is 15 credit hours for Fall and Spring semesters (each)
• Program development and assessment
• Serving on committees
• Mentoring full­ time and part-time instructors
• Participation in other professional activities as necessary
  
  

• Master's degree in either History or Political Science with significant graduate course work towards 18 credits in the other discipline (History or Political Science)
• Teaching experience at the college level
• Teaching experience in face-to-face and online/distance modalities
• Experience working with community college students
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Competency in the use of instructional technologies
• Ability to work closely with others in a variety of different areas
• Ability to work effectively with a culturally and educationally diverse student population
• Understanding of and commitment to the mission of the community college and student success
• Strong leadership, organizational, and time management skills
• Strong self-motivation

• Experience advising community college students
• Developed or adopted Open Educational Resources (OER) or low-cost course materials
