The Department of Information Systems invites applicants to apply for a full-time tenure-ineligible faculty position to start in August 2025. The department's mission is to be recognized: 1. As the leading comprehensive educational provider in the discipline of information systems among higher education institutions in the Commonwealth of Virginia; 2. For students, graduates, and faculty valued for community engagement and information systems

contributions to the profession; and 3. As leaders in creative scholarship that impacts the development, implementation, and management of information systems.

The department employs 12 full-time faculty and has nearly 400 students enrolled in its undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs. The department engages external partners through its advisory board, part-time faculty, and a variety of student-focused activities.

Responsibilities: This tenure-ineligible position will support the teaching mission of the Department of Information Systems. Responsibilities include teaching courses at the undergraduate and master’s levels. The applicant is expected to provide support for the B.S. in Information Systems, the MS. In Information Systems, and the Master of Decision Analytics, including the Master of Decision Analytics Weekend Program and/or the M.S. in Computer and Information Systems Security. The standard teaching load is four classes per semester. The applicant is expected to cultivate relationships with external partners for the benefit of students and alumni. The applicant is expected to engage in educational and professional activities such as presentations to academic and professional audiences, serving on boards of directors of organizations whose work is related to the mission of the School of Business, serving in a leadership role in professional associations, attending continuing professional education events, and maintaining professional licenses and certifications.

Required Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in information systems, business administration, computer science, or a related field.
  • Industry experience leading or serving as a senior contributor in one of the following areas:
    • Data analysis, data science, machine learning engineering, AI engineering, workflow automation.
    • Network operations, cloud computing, security operations, database administration.
  • Able to teach intermediate-level graduate and undergraduate classes in
    • Artificial intelligence and business analytics, and/or
    • Networking and data communications, cloud computing, and cybersecurity.
  • Able to successfully solicit projects and other opportunities from external parties for the benefit of our students.
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Terminal degree in information systems, business administration, computer science, or a related field.
  • Actively engaged in training or mentoring early career individuals, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and professional development.
  • Experience teaching technical courses at a university level or within a corporate setting, such as data analytics, database management, networking, or cybersecurity.
  • Experience in business development, strategic planning, or partnership management.
  • Ten years or more of industry experience.
  • Industry-recognized certification, such as CISSP, Cisco Certified Networking Professional (CCNP), or Certified Analytics Professional (CAP).
  • Demonstrated participation in activities including one or more of the following:
    • presentations to academic and professional audiences,
    • serving on boards of directors of organizations whose work is related to the mission of the School of Business,
    • serving in a leadership role in professional associations,
    • attending continuing professional education events,
    • maintaining professional licenses and certifications.
