Job Duties
The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) is seeking a skilled professional to serve as Juvenile Restoration Counselor. A major function of this position is to represent DBHDS by ensuring that the Commissioner’s responsibilities in Sections 16.1-356 through 16.1-361 of the Code of Virginia are appropriately fulfilled either via direct service or contracts. In order to fulfill the Commissioner’s statutory responsibilities, this position provides direct competency restoration services to juveniles referred via court order, provides case management and care coordination services to assist juveniles to attain adjudicative competence; and trains, supervises, coaches and monitors the performance of Juvenile Competency Restoration Counselors employed by CSBs and BHAs across the Commonwealth. In addition, the incumbent will work as a cooperative, collaborative, and productive member of the DBHDS Juvenile Competency Restoration Team, and may provide expert testimony in Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court. This position requires frequent daytime travel and flexible working hours. May require working until 6:00 p.m. two (2) nights per week and until 8:00 p.m. two (2) additional nights each week.
Minimum Qualifications
• Experience providing educational and/or direct services to juveniles in homes and/or the least restrictive environment.
• Highly specialized training, demonstrated expertise, and extensive experience in independent development.
• Experience in presentation of educational materials to children and adolescents, ages 8 through age 21, with emotional disturbances, intellectual disabilities, and learning disabilities in the least restrictive environment (i.e., children’s homes, juvenile detention centers, schools, etc.).
• Proficiency in the utilization of Microsoft Word and other software.
Additional Considerations
• Experience providing testimonies in court.
• Experience conducting telehealth/tele-medicine sessions during the current COVID Pandemic.
• Knowledge of regulatory requirements associated with CMS, DMAS and other applicable regulatory entities.
