The Beirne B. Carter Immunology Research Center is currently seeking a Lab Tech 2 to join the laboratory of Justin J. Taylor, PhD. Dr. Taylor’s lab is focused on unlocking the potential of B cells to protect against infection, cancer, and other diseases where these cells could benefit human health. This position provides technical support to a basic science research laboratory that will consist of graduate and undergraduate students, post-doctoral fellows, and technical staff. The lab technician will work closely with the PI and other lab members to learn and expertly perform a variety of experimental procedures including but not limited to tissue harvesting and preparation, molecular biology, protein production, genetic engineering, flow cytometry, and/or single cell sequencing.

Attention to detail, highly detailed record keeping, strong communication skills, and intellectual engagement are required to exceed in this position. Those seeking to learn and grow will be best suited for this position as the Taylor lab seeks to ensure the success of the short and long-term goals of both the individual and the lab.

The individual should have experience with CRISPR-Cas9 Mutagenesis and fluency in C++, C#,Python , self-guided and creative in seeking possible solutions to experimental/technical challenges at hand. Initial work for this position will not be focused upon a single project, but individuals exhibiting the desire and ability to lead an independent project may be given that opportunity.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Associate’s degree.

Experience: At least 2 years of lab experience, which may include student, experience. Bachelor's degree in related science will be considered in lieu of experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • An ability to work both independently and with others in a highly collaborative team-based environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and communication skills; general computer skills.
  • Entry-level applicants with no specific lab experience are welcomed provided they have a strong science background.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position can spend extensive periods of time standing and squatting while conducting experiments or caring for animals. Also requires keyboarding and other bench work and animal procedures requiring finer finger manipulation.
