Lecturer (Faculty Wage)

The Center for American English Language and Culture (CAELC) at the University of Virginia seeks applications for Lecturers in ESOL oral and writing classes. CAELC is a pan-university language support program tasked with supporting all international populations at UVA. Services include assessment, support classes, and consultation with the university community concerning language learners’ needs.

This is a part-time wage appointment without benefits.

The candidate will be part of a professional team of English language educators and will be offered classes during the academic year, the summer for the English for Academic Purposes program, English assessment rating during the summer months, and/or hours at the Writing Center as opportunities arise.

Responsibilities may include teaching one or more English language support classes in a semester or summer term, assisting with testing and placement, attending faculty meetings, and completing teaching-related administrative duties as assigned. An adjunct may be invited to teach in the 4.5-week summer English for Academic Purposes program.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Applicants must have a master's or terminal degree in TESOL or a related field.
• Two to three years of experience in higher education.
