Rappahannock Community College (RCC), founded in 1970, provides high-quality educational and training opportunities throughout a 12-county service region an hour east of Richmond on the beautiful western shore of the Chesapeake Bay with access to fresh local seafood and water activities. RCC invites you to apply for our Library Specialist opening. This position is part time and works 29 hours/week at our Warsaw campus. We are looking for candidates who share RCC’s values of integrity, diversity, equity, and inclusion, excellence, access, and learning for life.

Reporting to the Coordinator of Learning Resources, the Library Specialist is customer-facing and provides reliable, timely, and excellent customer service to students, faculty, staff, and community members. Serving these patrons, this position provides circulation and basic reference services. The incumbent instructs patrons in the use of the library catalog, assists patrons with intercampus and interlibrary loans, and manages patron accounts. This position assists students with the online student information system (SIS), CRM system (Navigate), course management system (Canvas), printing and email. In addition, the Library Specialist shelves and maintains library materials and apprises the librarian of materials needed based on patron inquiries and materials that are damaged or need replacement.

Professional development is important in this role, and the incumbent is expected to continue improving their knowledge, skills and abilities over time.

This position works a flexible schedule to include evenings and weekends as needed. The incumbent may be required to occasionally travel to other campuses. The salary range is $16/hour or higher, commensurate with experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Basic knowledge of library operations and procedures.
  • Ability to work in consultation with a professional librarian.
  • Ability to learn new technologies. Experience using a variety of computer applications and software.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population of clientele.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to perform duties accurately with attention to detail, and in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Uses tact and displays positive interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to navigate an alpha-numeric shelving system.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Library work experience.
