    Job Duties

    Hiram W. Davis Medical Center, located in Petersburg, Virginia, is a medical facility providing acute medical diagnoses, skilled care, intermediate care, and long-term care to individuals receiving services in DBHDS facilities and within the community that have intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. Admissions to HWDMC are generally either permanent placement or special hospitalization. Patients typically come to HWDMC as a special hospitalization for step-down to stabilize, post-surgery rehabilitation, or long-term care.

    Hiram Davis Medical Center is currently recruiting Licensed Practical Nurses to be responsible for providing direct care to physically ill patients with diverse mental/emotional problems and developmental disabilities ranging in age from adolescent to geriatric.

    KSA's and Competencies required for the positions:

    • Clinical knowledge of principles and practices of practical nursing
    • Ability to implement planned nursing care and provide guidance to other staff
    • Knowledge of normal anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, body mechanics, nursing procedures, growth and development, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
    • Skills in performing patient assessments, to observe, record and evaluate patient’s response to treatment, to communicate effectively with others orally and in writing.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Current Licensure as LPN with the Virginia State Board of Nursing
    Graduation from an accredited School of Practical Nursing along with successful completion of an acceptable Pharmacology course
    Experience in nursing at the licensed practical nurse level in a long-term care setting with experience in wound care or medical/surgical nursing

    Additional Considerations

    Working experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse within the field of medical-surgical. psychiatric, rehabilitation, geriatrics or intellectually disabled preferred
    Certification in Wound Care preferred
