Job Description:
General Description:
This position will support and work closely with the instructors, students and other personnel in the veterinary technology department.

Duties and Tasks:
  • Assist instructors with on-campus, on-line, and field trip lab set-up and break-down
  • Assist in supervising students with their lab skills during labs, extracurricular activities, and patient care shifts
  • Provide husbandry and nursing care to animals, train animal caretakers
  • Maintain facility equipment and keep lab rooms orderly
  • Assist in ordering and maintaining laboratory supplies, equipment and inventory.
  • Maintain medical records for animals
  • Assist with admitting and discharging shelter patients
  • Assist with AVMA accrediations
  • Adhere to policies, procedures, and regulations of NOVA, VCCS, AVMA, USDA, DEA, and VA Board of Veterinary Medicine
  • Attend events related to the Vet Tech Program
  • Assist with any other duties as assigned

Essential Functions:
As a part of the primary responsibility to provide quality instruction and animal care, the College expects each staff member to be on time, have a positive attitude, help problem solve, and adhere to the statement on professional ethics in accordance with College policies, procedures, and regulations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to work with a diverse student population

  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Self-motivated, self-starter and well organized
  • Ability to handle many tasks and projects simultaneously

Required Qualifications:
  • Licensed Veterinary Technician with valid/active Virginia license
  • Clinical experience
Additional Considerations:

Additional Considerations:
  • Professional licensing as a credentialed technician from a different state and eligible to obtain a VA state license as a Licensed Veterinary Technician within 30 days of hire
  • Experience maintaining inventory and/or purchasing.
