The Economics of Transformative AI Initiative (EconTAI) is a new research forum at the University of Virginia, led by Anton Korinek, Professor in the Department of Economics. Our mission is to research the economic implications of advanced AI and policies to navigate the transition.
The initiative is seeking a part-time (20hr/week) Manager to support its mission, with the possibility to scale to full-time as the initiative grows. The Manager will partner with the faculty director to launch and scale the initiative, overseeing strategy, finance, grants, events, and day-to-day operations.

Job duties include:
  • Collaborate with the initiative’s research faculty to formulate and execute a strategic plan as well as processes and procedures to establish the initiative
  • Maintain a comprehensive overview of all activities and commitments and oversee all administrative aspects of the initiative
  • Manage incoming correspondence of EconTAI faculty, ensuring timely responses
  • Contribute to the initiative’s research activities on the economic implications of advanced AI
  • Provide support for the initiative’s events and meetings, managing logistics, communications, attendee registration, and onsite coordination
  • Research grant opportunities, assist with grant writing and submissions
  • Maintain and update the initiative’s website and social media accounts with current events, relevant news and research findings
  • Track expenditures related to funding sources, providing regular updates on budget projections.
  • Embrace and advocate for innovative practices within the research environment
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties to support the initiative and its researchers may be assigned


Minimum Requirements
Education: Master's degree

Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency with AI tools, website management, and other digital tools
  • Experience in administrative support, project management, or operations
  • Interest in the economic effects of AGI and technology topics
  • Experience with academic environments
  • Proficiency with programming
  • Understanding of economic concepts


Anticipated Salary Range: $30,000-$40,000 for this part-time position based on education and experience with UVA benefits . There is the possibility that this position could grow into a full-time role. This position will be located on-site with a possible hybrid option over time and includes occasional travel for event support.

Physicals Demands
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
