Germanna is currently searching for a Military Connected Academic Advisor to serve as the Veterans Affairs and Virginia Educational Representative for students and the college community.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

• Working in conjunction with the VERITAS Liaison and other designated veteran and military connected specific support positions and functions.
• The Military Connected Academic Advisor provides comprehensive and intensive enrollment and advising services to an assigned caseload of current and prospective veteran, service member, and military family member students.
• The Military Connected Academic Advisor will have a comprehensive knowledge of all college policies and procedures, including application, enrollment, placement, and orientation processes.
• The Military Connected Academic Advisor should also have knowledge of all transfer, occupational, technical, and workforce services programs offered at the
  College.
• The Military Connected Academic Advisor will have a singular focus on helping veterans and their dependents on campus resolve problems that could interfere with their educational goals, as well as assisting and monitoring their progress toward successful attainment of their educational goals - especially degree completion.
• The Military Connected Academic Advisor will help connect veterans and their dependents with appropriate institutional, local, state, and federal resources that address their challenges and provide opportunities.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability and maturity to represent the college in the broader military community, and internally with other departments.
• Ability to work with public, faculty, staff, and students.
• Understanding and/or experience working with military, military families, and the common concerns/issues this population of students might encounter.
• Able to provide students with supporting career and transfer advice and accurate information about academic programs and services.
• Ability to work individually with little supervision and work in a team.
• Ability to speak professionally in front of groups/conduct workshops, present in meetings.
• Ability to organize tasks.
• Ability to administer assessments and interpret results.
• Ability to consult with area agencies dedicated to support services for veterans and military connected individuals, and others who might benefit from mental health or targeted vocational resources.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced office setting.
• Ability to support targeted recruiting and community outreach events with information regarding college academic programs and policies and federal and state education benefits.

• Experience counseling/advising students at the college level
• Experience working in an educational setting with Veterans, active-duty military and their families and the common concerns and issues this population of students might encounter
