Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads – both students and employers – for 50 years. It has grown from 1 campus into a regional educational and economic force. TCC is the largest provider of higher education and workforce services in Hampton Roads, enrolling nearly 28,000 students in 2019-20. Founded in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, Tidewater Community College (TCC) services South Hampton Roads with 4 campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, 7 regional centers and 2 important cultural institutions. The college had 3,203 graduates in 2019-2020, 40 percent of whom pursued degrees that would let them transfer to 4-year institutions. Of South Hampton Roads residents enrolled in higher education 36% enrolled at TCC. TCC’s institutional accreditation is affirmed through 2027 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.

This position is responsible for designing print and digital designs for the college including college-wide campus publications, marketing, and collateral materials.

The duties of this position include creating visual content, researching, and production of electronic and print layouts, updating a strong photo library, while maintaining a proactive review of college collateral, ensuring quality and timeliness of content. Will translate creative concepts into multimedia projects that maintain the overall brand of the college from concept development and design creation to final production.

• Advanced level knowledge of fundamental design principles, text layout, current design trends, and industry “best practices,” as well as an understanding of browser challenges, user experience, marketing principles, and visually communicating brand values.
• Demonstrated ability to use graphic design tools (Adobe Creative Suite, especially InDesign, PhotoShop).
• Advanced level skills with selecting and editing photos for websites.
• Ability to take direction, work independently, multi-task, prioritize work assignments, follow-through on assignments, anticipate deadlines, and respond to changing priorities as needed.
• Ability to maintain effective relationships with both internal and external clients, including ability to receive constructive direction and feedback.
• Demonstrated ability to translate client objectives into purpose-driven designs.
