The LENOWISCO Health District seeks to fill a Nutritionist Supervisor Senior position based at the Scott County Health Department. You must meet requirements for use of title Dietitian/Nutritionist as authorized by Code of VA 54.1 – 2731.
This is the most senior supervisory level in the Nutrition Series for employees opting to progress through the supervisory/managerial tracks. Supervises all nutritional programs and supporting staff for a district, featuring intermediate term program issues. Characteristic activities encompass overall responsibility for planning, implementing and providing of nutrition services to a district including areas of Women's, Infants & Children, Maternal/Child Health, General Medical, Family Planning, Baby Care, and Adolescent Health. This position also involves writing WIC grant(s) and the WIC Service Plan, program planning, monitoring, and analysis carried out via conducting the self Local Agency Management Evaluations (LAME) reviews, along with ultimate responsibility for follow up, documentation, and corrective action. Performs technical training and programmatic assistance, developing satellite clinics, providing outreach to physicians' offices, human services agencies, hospitals and other related entities. Supervises professional and support employees within the nutritionist programs through observation of work activities, consultation, statistical data and work reviews. May provide nutritional assessment and education to clients. May perform other related administrative tasks. Thorough knowledge of program management, analytical principles and service integration is necessary. Responsibilities are carried out independently based on an outline or work plan developed by or approved by the supervisor. This benchmark serves as the sole district WIC and nutrition services supervisor and is responsible for all aspects of WIC and nutrition services in a district.
1. Performance Management Serves in a managerial capacity and conducts performance management activities for staff Establishes and reviews work assignments and priorities, and resolves related managerial/supervisory issues, in conjunction with program management and Human Resource staff Ensures relevant training and workplace safety for staff and conducts appropriate performance monitoring and appraisals 2. Program Management Responsible for the implementation of the WIC program; develops program goals, objectives, policies and procedures, and monitors service delivery methods and capacity of services to achieve objectives; develops a quality assurance plan for each program area; ensures the evaluation of programs, population outcomes and community health impacts through the collection of data at the individual, system and population levels Coordinates with health care staff in the District to ensure that nutrition services are meeting the needs of patients and the community; communicates nutrition goals and objectives to health care team and uses their suggestions in revision of nutrition services plan; works closely with state WIC office on matters of policy and procedure Works with other District staff to integrate all resources providing nutrition services into District nutrition plans; identifies public/private sector nutrition resources within the District and coordinates Health Department nutrition services with them; works closely with other local agencies including local departments of Social Services, hospital dietitians and local physicians to coordinate nutrition services to their clientele and to refer Health Department patients to their services Determines nutrition staffing needs in the District and prepares necessary justification and documentation for requesting additional nutrition position; recruits, interviews and hires WIC personnel Oversees WIC budget; determines program budget needs and obtains required authorization for expenditures; ensures WIC funds are utilized to maximize services to WIC participants and used in compliance with state and federal guidelines; develops and writes grant proposals to foundations and other organizations to communicate the agency’s mission and programs to potential funding sources; prepares local, regional and state reports as required
This is a restricted position which is solely funded by the WIC Program for a 1 year period ending September 30th each year. The availability of funding is scheduled for review before the grant expiration date and periodically thereafter. Employment is contingent on the continued availability of grant or non-grant funds.
Minimum Qualifications
Comprehensive knowledge of principles of nutrition, public health programs, community resources and principles of health education Knowledge of budgeting; personnel management; ability to plan, implement and evaluate; grant writing; proficient use of a computer and Windows environment Skills in oral and written communication and nutrition counseling Ability to write reports, interpret policy, develop statistical reports and analyze data to impact program planning Ability to supervise multi-disciplinary team and provide team leadership; ability to supervise, schedule and evaluate personnel Extensive knowledge of the WIC program and its policies and procedures; work closely with State WIC office to identify program issues and solutions

Experience in public health nutrition, Registered Dietician, and supervisory experience preferred
